Wheelset Washing Plant
In order to satisfy the cleaning requirements of Railway Wheels, a large parts system with sufficient space and adapted technology is required – such as our Rail Wheet cleaning plant.
Our Wheelset washer effectively removes grease and road dirt from locomotive or car wheelsets. Wheelset washers are pit-mounted in line with workshop floor-level tracks for a pass-through operation, allowing processing up to four wheelsets per hour.
After trains have been used intensively for many years, the wheel sets also collect a huge amount of soiling in the form of hard encrustations, grease, brake dust, etc. It is also often necessary to remove old and sometimes multiple layers of paint to allow the completion of crack testing or repainting tasks.
The automatic operation of the wheelset cleaning system typically follows this sequence: Operators position and line up wheelsets in front of machine entrance / door opens / autoloader pulls one wheelset into the cleaning chamber / wheelset rotates while being processed through multi-stage cleaning process / autoloader ejects wheelset onto outgoing track.
Loading is carried out automatically and at floor level. We are adopted in our design technology with large volume spray cleaning system. The wheel sets are rotated and cleaned using a nozzle system adapted to their contours. Our Wheel Washer has a special frame system to target cleaning of hard-to-reach spaces on various different wheel sets.
Another challenge faced in the cleaning of wheel sets are their heavy weights of up to multiple tonnes. In addition, drive wheel sets and running wheel sets need to be handled differently.
